10 Simple and Effective Ways to Improve Your Life!

10 simple and effective ways to Improve your life!

Kind of funny that I am writing this blog post as it has only been a little over a week since the New Year began and some people have given up on their “resolutions” already. But since one of the most frequent questions I am asked is how to start over, begin anew or change...I decided to refresh your memory with some old tips and some new ones. So without further ado, here are 10 simple, effective and real ways to improve your life:

1. Look within yourself, your inner world

Do not think that a new haircut, a new hair color, new makeup or other changes in appearance, even the most dramatic ones, will make you a different person and make your urge to change your life disappear. Somewhere under your new blonde hair, new beard, new tattoo or a new outfit (no matter how dope it might be), you will still be the same person. It is impossible to solve internal dilemmas, by changing external factors.

2. Stop telling everyone

There is no need to shout at the top of your lungs that you are starting something new! Contrary to popular belief which states that you should share a new habit in order to keep yourself accountable, it doesn’t work most of the time anyway ( especially if this isn’t your first time starting over). I say, tell 1 or 2 of the closest people in your life who won’t giggle and whisper "ok, attempt number 457, good luck." This by the way does not mean that they are not good friends, they probably just had to endure more than one of your “new life beginnings,” and their healthy skepticism is quite understandable.

3. Figure out exactly what doesn’t suit you in your old ways

To truly start to change, it’s not enough to just make another plan. First you need to figure out what exactly does not suit you in the old life. Make a list and for each "dissatisfied" item, write down how to solve your problem a.k.a your new goal. Use the S.M.A.R.T. goals system, always works.

4. Stop trying to do it all

Sometimes, just looking at the to do list or the amount of work that needs to be done as a whole is so overwhelming that you want to give up before even starting. Same occurs with personal motivation. For example, if you say to yourself: “I want to write a book”, then understand that it will take an extended period of time to achieve this goal. If you just divide one big task into several smaller tasks, say “write one chapter per month,” then the goal will no longer seem so unattainable.

5. Don’t wait, it won’t get any easier

Do not postpone the beginning of a new life until tomorrow, Monday or the first day of the next month. You will not be any more prepared then, it won’t be any easier, nor will the results come any faster. So if you want to start going to bed earlier, get up at 6 in the morning and get a workout in before work, go to bed at a decent hour today, even if your original plan was to waste your sleep hours on another Netflix original.

You can do anything. Everything is in your hands.

6. Declutter

Change comes easier when you have an organized space where you can actually find items that you need. Don’t be afraid to throw away (or donate) items that you haven’t used in years and are no longer serving you. Clearing out the clutter in your home, office, car, digital world and any other spaces will make your inner world feel more spacious, energized…and it’s just easier to breathe! You can start with these items.

7. Be consistent

The first 21 days are crucial in creating and forming new habits. During this time your brain is just getting used to the unusual actions, yet still questioning it. After 21 days, the habit is only being formed, but the old habits continue to circulate, making it critical to be consistent. The first 21 days is a start, an important one where you begin to move from old to new.

8. Drop them folks

In the words of Gary Vaynerchuk “Stop hanging around people who don’t want to win.” …and I will add, “and with those who don’t want YOU to win.” When starting something new or making a change, surround yourself with the right people. Those who will motivate, inspire, ad influence you to keep going, keep doing, keep hustlin’. Do not regret parting with those who don’t lift you up, they don’t belong in your life.

9. Stop wasting time

You want to start a new life? Stop playing video games, limit social media, Neflix can wait, close your email and start. If you calculate how much time it takes for you to be absolutely useless, and how much cool, beneficial, really worthwhile things could have been possible to do during that time, it becomes scary and might make you cry.

10. Act now

There is that wonderful saying “actions speak louder than words,” although I prefer “actions speak louder than just making plans.” So Figure out exactly what you want, divide one big task into several smaller tasks and act now. Remember, you have the entire universe cheering you on but you MUST act in order for it to help you. By acting and doing, the universe will provide you with what you need. Don’t doubt that even for a little bit.

So there you have it, 10 simple, effective and easy ways to get you going towards your new life. I am confident that you will be successful this time because you are strong, valuable, courageous and super duper AWESOME!!

So what will be your first step towards a new beginning? I would love to hear your plan of action, tell me!

Yours truly,
